Cops Chasing incident turned fatal, as a young motorist who crashed into a median died at hospital later.

The accident happened on the 80-feet road in Saligramam on yesterday 09-05-2015 morning, when the traffic police team attempted to intercept a motorcycle the injured party was riding, along with two other friends. The other two suffered injuries. The incident spread anger among the public who damaged police vehicles in protest and staged a Protest demanding action against the traffic policeman.

According to local eye witnesses the accident took place around 10.45 a.m. when the three youth later identified as Selvam, Raja and Selva from Nerkundram, on the motorcycle took a right from Arcot road on to 80 feet road, in Sathya Garden.

A traffic police team attempted to stop the motorcycle, and the two wheeler rider attempted to run away. Unconfirmed sources told us “The traffic policeman reportedly hit the second pillion rider on the motor cycle, leading the rider of the vehicle to lose control and fall onto the sharp median. The third pillion rider suffered severe cuts on his abdomen and started profusely bleeding” recalled eye witness Satya an auto rickshaw driver near the spot.

A biryani shop employee across the road recalled that a traffic constable chiding a young woman who used her dupatta to bind the young man’s abdomen and curtail the bleeding. Public who noticed the incident called 108 ambulance immediately to. However, the ambulance did not arrived on time to save the life.

 Soon, the public gathered and started questioning the actions of the police, while another group of people  taken the three men into an auto rickshaw and rushed them to the hospital. But Selvam (18) died on the way due to severe cut injuries in his abdomen, which had damaged his internal organs. The other two have been admitted to a hospital and their condition is known to be stable.

Crowds gathered in protest of the police and smashed window panes of police vehicles on the road. As tension mounted, more police officials, including senior officers reached the spot and pacified the protesters. The stand off lasted for over an hour resulting in traffic coming to a standstill on the 80 feet road and the adjoining road.

Meanwhile, the traffic police inspector KK Nagar, Sargunam and the police constable shifted over the issue, and other two cops put on a waiting list, by the Chennai Metropolitan Police Commissioner George, and also ordered the probe by Police Joint Commissioner Nagarajan.
